Running With 2.1 On The Sprint HTC Hero

As I posted yesterday I went and downloaded the leaked release candidate upgrade to Android 2.1 for the HTC Hero on Sprint and installed it to my phone and so far things seem to be running a lot better than they did under Android 1.5.  Of course there are a few bumps in the road but that is to be expected.

A few apps are either not showing up in the Android Marketplace or do not run properly, or at all, under 2.1 but there is nothing that is a "deal breaker" in my usage so far.  As more devices make the move to 2.1 and this update goes "gold" then the apps will be fixed, I'm sure.

Some things that I have noticed so far are better memory usage, snappier performance across the board, and way better battery life.  Those three things alone make installing this update worth it to me!  Icons look better and the eye candy of the weather animations when unlocking the phone add to the eye candy appeal.  On the downside it seems that the Hero will not be able to handle the animated wallpapers found in newer devices that run 2.1.

I'll be doing a more details "review" later on after a day or so of using the phone daily.  In the mean time here is a link to a few more shots I took of the phone running with Android 2.1.
