Dear Sprint

Dear Sprint,

We've been together now for two years and it's been a good two years for the most part.  You've provided with excellent service at a very good price and I want to thank you for that.

However I feel I have to tell you that at this point things between us are starting to feel rather stagnant.

Last month was CES and you did announce a very nice device in the Overdrive mobile hot spot with some wicked 4G speed thrown in for good measure but you left me wanting in the way of smartphones.  I really didn't let that bother me too much because I knew that the Mobile World Congress was coming up a few short weeks later and that it would be there that you might let me know what new was coming out.  Well, it's about to wrap up soon and there is still nothing new announced from you while everyone else seems to be moving forwards.

Now, don't get me wrong, Sprint!  I've had some fun with the four smartphones I've bought from you in two years.  Lots of fun!  But now it seems you are standing still while everyone else (Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile) are moving forward with newer, more capable hardware.  You keep telling me I can get an upgrade at new customer pricing but really, why should I?  What do you have right now to make me extend my contract another two years?  Your Android devices are stuck at version 1.5 and it looks like one would need to schlep to a service center to do even minor updates to the firmware.  Why not do over-the-air updates or even downloading the software to my PC or Mac to do the update at home?  Why make me go very far out of my way to fix "bugs" on phones that may have been interesting four months ago but now look like dated dinosaurs?  At least with my Pre I can update over the air!

Look, don't take all this the wrong way, Sprint.  This letter to you is meant to let you know that things are in a rough patch with us right now.  Maybe you can turn this around.  Throw me a bone!  Let me know you have something special cooking!  Don't leave me hanging in device limbo!

Sincerely,

Mike
