Internet Shopper

As someone who relies on public transit to get around town on a day to day basis I usually do not like to schlep more stuff than I have to on a daily basis.  A look in my backpack would tell you that I already lug quite a bit of stuff around daily already.

On any given day you'll find a portable battery pack for emergency charging of my phone or any other USB powered device, a spare cell phone battery, a couple of spare chargers for multiple devices, one or two bottles of Gatorade, one or two 20oz Mountain Dews, lately I've been carrying some individual packs of Crystal Lite, sometimes some sort of snack food for those times I don't get a chance for a proper meal, various assortments of pens, USB flash drive (for those "just in case I need it" moments), and in the winter months a scarf and pair of gloves.  In other words I like to have a lot of "stuff" on hand.  On those rare occasions I take the Macbook out with me I'll usually pack in the spare battery to make sure I've got juice on the go.  I usually won't lug the power adapter for the Macbook with me unless I anticipate a LOT of computer usage.

Given that I'm usually carrying all that stuff with me daily I don't really want to add more to it if I can avoid it.  This is where shopping on the internet comes into play for me.

Over the past four years I've pretty much gotten to a point where I do probably 75% of my shopping online.  Everything from clothes to gear I have been buying online more and more.  Amazon.com, oddly enough, is a great place to buy clothing and accessories.  My last five pairs of jeans and my current winter coat was purchased through them as well as my backpack.  I tend to look for the stuff on sale with the free Super Saver shipping.  It takes a little longer to get the stuff that way but I try to make my purchases far enough out that faster (read "more expensive") shipping is not required.  I can't remember the last time I bought a DVD in a store, I get them from Amazon or Wal-Mart online.

For computer gear I tend to shop at either Tigerdirect.com or Newegg.com.  I'm starting to buy more from Newegg as they have free shipping on lots of stuff and their free shipping times are just as fast as "paid" shipping, if not faster in some cases.  Also, Newegg is branching out to offering more than just computers and electronics so they are becoming somewhere I check at the same time I check Amazon.

There are a few sellers on eBay that I trust after very nice buying experiences and when I'm looking for something I need/want I usually check there too.

Except for groceries, toiletries, and minor odds and ends I tend to shop online.

Earlier today I sat down and thought about just how my shopping habits have changed over the past few years and it rather shocked me to discover just how much I've become dependent on the internet for so many things.  Just thought I'd share all that with you!
