About Me
Where to start?
One hobby (some may say obsession) of mine since early childhood has been electronics and computers. I'm old enough to remember when the first digital watches were becoming the must have and held held electronic games were coming mainstream. I even remember when Pac Mac came out! From those early experiences came a passion for anything tech related. I was lucky in that my parents were able to feed this need/desire/want/obsession. My other great passion is reading! I was the only kid I knew whose Dad had to build him to custom bookshelves for his room, for actual books. In fact I still have my old set of World Book Of Knowledge encyclopedias in storage that my parents got me when I was in third grade. It was only slightly embarrassing for me to be on a first name basis with the employees at local bookstores as a teen.
My first computer was an Apple IIc and that is where I cut my teeth on computers and programming. By the time I had to take my first computer class in high school I had been doing BASIC programming for over three years. I'm sure I gave Mr. Logan more than one headache in that programming class but I do remember that my brining in the mouse from my IIc may have earned some brownie points during one class. During the 1990s I drifted from programming and become more interested in the hardware side of things and I toy with the idea of teaching myself the latest programming languages from time to time as I find I'm missing it somewhat.
The past three or four years I've been concentrating on the mobile computing environment that is the smart phone device. I find it fascinating that one can carry in the palm of their hand a device that has more computing power than a desktop computer did just ten years ago AND have access to a vast amount of information that is found on the internet, not to mention the communication capabilities in these devices whether it be a regular phone call, instant messaging, or even video calls. It's a long way from those early devices I remember playing with as a kid!
In what little free time I have lately I try to make the time to get out and take pictures. I don't get out anywhere near as much as I would like for this hobby but I try to find the time. When I do you'll be able to find links to the pictures via this website. I always welcome comments on my photography work.
